Quick Thinking

Wanaka Sunset

Of course she thought… wasting the day away – dreaming and scheming, the next art project on the horizon.  omg, that’d be awesome – she was thinking…

Daydreaming – I’m on the beach, somewhere far away from here – like Jamaica maybe, yeah – definitely Jamaica – Kingston town and all that… (mind drifts off to the music…) – UB40 – man that’s a catchy song … I’m singing along now… “The night… seems to fade… but the moonlight… lingers on…… ” – back to base camp again, Kingston town – Kingston – yeah I remember that place, great drive from Queenstown too – “Whatever happened to that Kingston Flyer? – the steam train that used to be there, went on that once, wonder if it’s still running?…” – Kingston – that’s right – and what was that jingle again – the one with all those blackbirds baked in a pie – “Sing a song of sixpence… ” yep that’s it, I’m humming along now, trying to remember the words – “… a pocket full of rye…” yeah – a pocket full, that reminds me of something as well – “Ring a ring a rosies” or something like that – and what was that other song again? oh yeah, I remember the one…

…meanwhile a group walk up to the bar – “Good evening, how are you all – hows the weather today, hope you’ve all been out there making the most of the sunshine…” – great yes we drove to Mt Cook today, tomorrow we’re doing a helicopter ride to Franz Josef Glacier then Friday we’re going to Milford Sound – might stay the weekend, I’ve heard they do overnight boat trips – have you been there?, what do you recommend?, we’d love to hear from the locals – what is it like?…

“yeah it’s awesome, really cool place, like spiritual or magical, I don’t know the word exactly but it is enchanting, like there’s definitely some kind of magic there, that’s for sure…”  – “Anyway, what can I get you to drink? – we’ve got this really nice Sav or I can get you a Pinot Noir if you’re into red – it’s from the vineyard down the road…” – oh, yeah, I know the one, we walked past there on our way to the waterfall – think that’s called the Millennium Track maybe… have you done that walk?, it’s really beautiful – kind of reminds us of the Swiss Alps or somewhere in Europe – Canada maybe too.  We had a skiing trip there once, Whistler I think – next year we want to go to Lake Tahoe. We’ve stayed at Park City but haven’t been skiing around here yet – next year I reckon we’ll have to plan a winter holiday…  “Absolutely, there’s so much to see… Treble Cone is cool, pretty steep too and then there’s Cardrona – and you can always stop at the hotel on the way home… that’s always packed and got a great vibe…”

…meanwhile… a group walk up to the bar – “Good evening, how are you all – hows the weather today, hope you’ve all been out there making the most of the sunshine…”

What have you got for dinner?, they asked – all that walking – Jamaican us all hungry…

I used to try and fit art around my work – now it’s the other way around.  Now when I meet people, it’s usually at the cafe, over coffee – with a rather large window to day dream out of yet again…

Confessions from the bar…
